US Flagge & 506nd PIR
On 20 July 1942 the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment was activated. The Unit trained in Camp Toccoa, Georgia which was adjacent to the Currahee Mountains. The name 'Currahee' (native Indian dialect for Stand-Alone) became the 506th PIR Regimental Motto and battle cry.
With the 101st Airborne, the 506th PIR entered all the actions from D-Day in France to the capture of the Eagles Nest at Berchtesgaden.
Global fame came in the mid 90's with the publication of the book "Band of Brothers" focussing on E-co 506.
All 506th Parachute Infantry Battalions and 101st Airborne Troopers are a Band of Brothers. CURRAHEE!
