Eastman Leather Explanation:
.50CAL is a small range of specialised garments that are offered only in the Time Worn finish. They are unique in spec to any of the other similar models we offer, so they are not simply Time Worn versions of our regular range. The colours, materials and finishes are purposely selected to create a subdued and rugged looking vintage garment. They will appeal to those who appreciate the nostalgic charm of a true vintage flight jacket.
The Time Worn process is entirely hand done, which takes hours to achieve. The result is a jacket that is still brand new, but you get something that has a vintage, lived-in, patina that you can continue to add to from the first time you put it on.
The .50CAL B-3 is made from authentic veg-tanned, North American sheepskin, and is hand dyed with broken grain character like our Eastman B-3. However, that's where the likeness ends. Currently we produce two other models of B-3; the Eastman 1943 model, and the Rough Wear contract 17756 1941 model. The .50CAL B-3 represents a spec which saw the transition from the earlier 'Redskin' jackets to the later dark Seal Brown versions. The panel configuration is that of the pre-war design (similar to the Rough Wear 17756 model), while the outer colour and finish is a hand-dyed Seal Brown. The colour of the fleece is also typical of the transitional model in that it has a distinct brownish tinge, compared to the much brighter off-white shade of the later models.
Last but not least, it is fitted with our famous reproduction of the 1941 model Crown zipper, which perfectly completes the circle of authenticity in this product.
For those who appreciate the essence of an original WWII B-3 will know it's character is embodied in the wear it's sustained and the time that has passed since its manufacture, that imbues it with its vintage appeal.
